先日、前橋中央ボーイズOBの23期生 新井聖永 が中日スポーツさんに取り上げられていました。
instagram・facebook・noteにもアップしましたが少々加えてみました。
新井は高崎の北部ﾋﾞｸﾄﾘｰｽﾞ出身で、長野郷中学から高崎商業高校へ進み、現在は流通経済大学の3年生です。

と、中学高校時代からは想像できない見出しでした。
記事中の「前橋中央ボーイズ、高崎商で目立った活躍ができなかったことが原動力。」というのもうなずけます。
新井聖永はバイタルネット野球部で社会人野球の世界で活躍してくれています。
どのような成長過程を歩んだのか…
中学・高校ではセカンド・ショートを中心に守る内野手でした。
中学時代も試合には出てはいましたが、中心選手ではありませんでした。
確かにセンスのある選手ですが、打つ方ではホームランを打つようなイメージは沸きません。
高校3年時に見たときはでっかくなったなぁと、身長が急激に伸びている中でもバランスを保ってなんとかプレーもこなしている様子が印象的でした。
20期生に兄の 快人(農大二 – 金沢学院大学) がおり、彼は小学校の後半から急激な身長の伸びがみられて、中学で入部当初はボールを投げることもままならないような状態でした。ずっと身長が伸び続ける中学・高校時代でした。
兄の成長過程からも高校3年間でも身長が伸び続けるであろうと想像はつきましたが、記事中の「入学時は182センチ、72キロの痩せ形だった」とあるように本当にびっくりするくらい大きくなっていました。
身長が伸びるのが落ち着き、そのあとに筋力と体重が増え、それらが動作にリンクするのはさらに先と常々部員達には話しています。
新井は、それを実践してくれているような感じですね。
ということで中学期は、まず身長を伸ばすことを優先する時期だと考えています。
新入部員を募集する入部説明会の資料から
31番が新井です。
上が入部時の身長順で下が卒部時の身長順です。
真ん中より小かった新井が3年間を経てトップ3入りで卒部式を迎えました。
よって中学期は彼よりも早く大きくなっていて、経験値の高い部員が試合に出ることが多かったです。
しかしながら、高校・大学へ進むにつれて順調に大きくなることを理解した上で強豪校へ進学してくれたように記憶しています。
彼のような選手の割合が中学になると多くなりますので、注意してみていかなけらばならないと考えています。
ユニフォームの色分けが分からなくなっていますが、毎年おおよそ8割くらいの部員が中学3年間で身長が10㎝以上大きくなっています。
注意していること
まず注意しなくてはならないのは、その8割の10㎝以上伸びる選手です。
中学期は、現時点での身長・成長過程でピークは迎えていないのにもかかわらず「体力＝実力」とされやすい時期になります。
先に大きくなった選手たちは体力も経験値も、その時点では高いです。
心も体も思春期を迎え、周囲からの視線が気になる時期も重なります。自分で自分を見切ってしまうことや周囲からのダメ出しなどを自己評価として加えてしまいがちになります。
他にも成長期特有の「急激な身長の伸び」によって体のバランスが崩れて技術的にも下降線をたどってしまう選手が多く見受けられます。
心技体とよく言われますが、中学期の多くの選手はこのバランスが悪いことが多いです。
自身でも成長過程に興味を持ってもらえるようにすることと、自身の伸びしろを信じて具体的な目標設定を繰り返すことなどに取り組んでいます。
周囲の大きな選手に、必ず追いつく、いつ頃追いつく、追いついたときにどう追い抜いているかをイメージさせられるように伝え続けています。
更に注意しなくてはならないのは残り2割の10㎝伸びない選手です。
成長期特有の「急激な身長の伸び」の時期をすでに終えて中学に上がってきていることが多いです。
早く大きくなり早くから活躍する選手は、周囲に自分より（言葉は悪いですが）格下の相手が多くなることを理解して野球に取り組まなくてはならないと伝えています。
適度な経験、もしくはどうにかなってしまう経験は多くても、より高い経験は少なくなると考えており、経験値という点では大きなプラスにはなりにくいのではないかとも伝えています。
同学年で括り、小さい選手と大きい選手が一緒に練習することが多いのが現状です。バッティング練習で考えれば小さい選手が投げるボールを大きい選手が打つとなると難易度は低くなります。その逆は難易度が高くなりますので小さい選手はいつも格上の選手との経験値を得ることができると思います。
現行のトーナメント形式やある程度勝利を優先することに意義を求められているうちは体力の優位性を基に試合出場が多かったり、練習などでもその対象者を中心に練習内容が決められることが多いと思います。
その子たちは中心選手としてある程度までの経験値を得ることはできると思います。
成長過程に関して小さい選手に比べてより強く興味を持たせることと、小さい選手に比べてより具体的な目標設定を繰り返すことなどに取り組んでいます。
追いつかれるかもしれないという恐怖心に押しつぶされないように、周囲の成長に不安すら感じないような心技体で高校野球に挑戦させられるようにできればと思います。
入部時に大きかった選手には中学期に大きな貯金をして高校では絶対に追いつかれないように頑張ってほしいと伝え続けています。
また、追いつかれることの方が多い現実も必要があれば伝えています。
新井と同学年の部員で、入部時にはすでに大きくて中学ではあまり大きくならなかった部員がいます。
彼は本当によく理解しくれいて、中学期は試合に出続けて経験値を上げて、その貯金で高校野球でもなんとか食らいついてくれていました。
また、彼も諦めることなく大学で野球を続けると言ってくれた時は本当に嬉しかったです。
大きい選手が集まると、そのアドバンテージを生かして中学・高校ではいわゆる「強い」チームが形成されます。
そのチームは「強い」ですから、その情報は正しいですので「強い」チームを求める選手が次の進路先として選びます。
そして、そのようなチームはアドバンテージのある選手が続けて集まる好循環につながるように感じています。
そのような学年もあった方が良いかと思っていた時期でもありました。
23期生は関東ボーイズリーグ大会優勝、ジャイアンツカップ出場など素晴らしい成績を収めてくれました。
それなりに高校野球でも活躍をしてくれましたが、もっともっと可能性があったように感じており責任を痛感しています。
彼らの高校や大学での状況を踏まえて運営を少し方向転換をしています。
より能力の先食いなどをしないチーム運営にしていかなけらばならないと強く考えるきっかけを与えてくれた学年でもありました。
最後に
という訳で、現状チームでは10年先を見据えて野球をやろうと選手には伝えるようになりました。
野球をツールに心技体を磨き、野球の技術向上はもとより野球から離れれてもそこでの経験を基にしっかりと人間形成できるようにしていかなければならないと考えています。
そのためには中学期に多くの選手が迎える成長過程の特徴を把握することが大切だと考えます。
早く大きくなる子も徐々に大きくなる子も自分がどのような取り組みをしていくべきかを探していかなくてはなりません。
そして誰もが憧れを抱く高校野球の世界へ挑戦していきます。
その挑戦が、その後の人生に大きく影響を与えることは確かです。
毎月行う目標設定シートにおいて高校野球での目標は原則中期目標に設定するようにしています。
そこで結果と結論を求めるのか、高校大学の7年計画にするのか、それぞれの考え方が出てくると思います。
終着点としてでも通過点としてでも野球を通じた人生は進んでいきます。
野球を通じた人間形成を求めていきます。
その上で、高校野球でもしっかりと結果を残せるような選手を多く輩出できるチーム運営を目指していければと考えています。
